Bacteria in your GUT affects your immune response to Covid-19 and could influence how severely you suffer symptoms, study finds

14th January 2021 By //  by IgBioscience

This is what we’ve been saying all along! Colostrum builds a healthy gut….with a powerful anti-viral effect.

Here’s what the research found…

  • South Korean study reviewed pre-existing research on role of gut microbiome
  • Hong Kong-based scientists examined blood and stool samples from patients
  • Both studies indicate a gut microbe imbalance is key in severe Covid-19

A person’s gut microbiome may play a role in fighting off coronavirus infection and preventing severe Covid-19 symptoms, according to new studies.

Each person has a unique assortment of bacteria in their gut which play a variety of roles, including in modulating the immune response.

Research from the Chinese University of Hong Kong found people suffering with Covid-19 had a ‘significantly altered’ microbiome composition.

Separate research from South Korea found people with a poorly functioning gut are more likely to develop severe Covid-19 because the lack of healthy microbes makes it easier for the virus to infect cells in the digestive tract.

Each person has a unique assortment of bacteria in their gut which play a variety of roles, including in modulating the immune response. Research from the Chinese University of Hong Kong found people suffering with Covid-19 had a ‘significantly altered’ microbiome composition (stock)

The team from Hong Kong examined blood, stool and patient records from 100 hospital patients with Covid-19 between February and May 2020, and 27 of these patients also provided samples 30 days after the infection had passed.

Researchers also collected samples from 78 people without Covid-19 who were taking part in a microbiome study before the pandemic.

The study concludes the gut microbiome may be involved in the ‘magnitude of Covid-19 severity possibly via modulating host immune responses’.

The authors found that patients with Covid-19 had depleted levels of several gut bacteria known to modify a person’s immune response.

For example, there was evidence of elevated levels of some bacteria, including Ruminococcus gnavus, Ruminococcus torques and Bacteroides dorei.

There was also depleted levels of microbes known to help the immune system, including Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Bifidobacterium bifidum.

The changes to bacterial composition endured for at least a month after the virus had cleared.

Hate to say, but I told you so comes to mind!

STUDY SHOWS COLOSTRUM MORE EFFECTIVE THAN FLU VACCINE

11th January 2021 By //  by IgBioscience

Here’s something that we all might find interesting: A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology has shown that Colostrum and prebiotics and probiotics are more effective in preventing flu than the flu vaccine. Col0strum contains the full range of pre and probiotics.
“The efficacy of a 2-month treatment with oral colostrum in the prevention of flu episodes compared with antiinfluenza vaccination was evaluated. Groups included healthy subjects without prophylaxis and those receiving both vaccination and colostrum. After 3 months of follow-up, the number of days with flu was 3 times higher in the non-colostrum subjects. The colostrum group had 13 episodes versus 14 in the colostrum + vaccination group, 41 in the group without prophylaxis, and 57 in nontreated subjects.”
Bovine colostrum raises the percentage of natural killer (NK) cells in the body. NK cells are a type of white blood cell and part of the innate immune system that helps control microbial infections and tissue damage. They also play a role in organ transplant, immunotherapy and autoimmune disorders.
NK cells are a type of lymphocyte that respond quickly to pathogens in the body. They are best known for attacking viruses and controlling early cancer cells. The NK cells secrete cytokines that signal other immune cells and ultimately enhance your immune response.
Scientists have found these cells can adapt and develop memory cells, which offers new insights into the role they play in the innate immune response protecting human health. These cells make up to 15% of the peripheral blood supply, but the majority are found in the spleen, bone marrow and lymph nodes.
Many viral illnesses, like colds and flu, are seasonal. Although you can get sick anytime during the year,  colds and flu are more prevalent from October through March. There are a variety of reasons that happens, not the least of which is related to your sun exposure and subsequent vitamin D production.

TURMERIC – DOES IT WORK? BBC Radio 4 investigates….

25th August 2020 By //  by IgBioscience

This is a powerful study of turmeric – broadcast by BBC Radio 4’s Food Programme. In this excerpt “Trust me I’m a Doctor” ‘s Dr Michael Mosely details the results of a trial with turmeric that found it affects the gene that deals with depression and anxiety, asthma and cancer. It goes on to report on a British Medical Journal Case Report on a lady with multiple myeloma. After every treatment failed, she began taking turmeric; And her experience, monitored by her consultant, was astonishing.
This is why our IgTurmeric+ Colostrum/turmeric blend can be so effective. They complement each other perfectly.

THE FACTS: RESTORING AND REPAIRING OUR GUTBIOME – WHY COLOSTRUM MAKES US FEEL “WELL”

9th June 2020 By //  by IgBioscience

Immustem colostrum repairs, restores and maintains our gutbiome.

Scientists are waking up to the reality that a healthy gut has major implications for our overall health and mental well-being.

It’s the gut-brain connection.

As long term users of Immustem pure colostrum we’ve known this since day one, and we feel it’s benefits every day.

Here’s a clip from Radio 4’s documentary “The Second Genome” where this phenomenon is discussed by gobsmacked scientists.

There’s so much more to colostrum and gut health. You can read all about what your gut actually does here and why it’s so important.

PEER REVIEWED RESEARCH PROVING COLOSTRUM STRENGTHENS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

7th April 2020 By //  by IgBioscience

One of our clients who’s 71 and has been taking Immustem colostrum for many years, reported his own experience with his daughter, and the research that he has followed that supports the proposition that Colostrum boosts our immune systems:

“This particular interest started after my daughter returned from Italy five weeks ago with a temperature, sore throat, dry cough and fatigue. Although I was exposed to her coughing I have developed no symptoms, even at the age of 71 (I look forward to antibody testing). As a result I have revisited the immune health research …at Aberystwyth University and some further research funded by Nestlé.

The Aberystwyth studies showed less respiratory infection in young athletes over a three-month winter period compared with a milk powder placebo. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24200515/

(This is significant as high-level exercise is well known to depress the immune system – https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00394-017-1597-6)

The same researchers investigated the immune response using a skin test reaction to a novel antigen. The response to repeat exposure showed twice the immune response for the colostrum group compared with the placebo. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29274034”
